We mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schwarte

Prof. Dr Rudolf Schwarte passed away on 7 March 2021 at the age of 82. He headed the Institute for Communications Engineering at the University of Siegen for almost 30 years and is the founder of the “Interdisciplinary Centre for Sensor Systems NRW (ZESS)”, which was established in 1988.

Undisputed and forward-looking expertise

Without a doubt, Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schwarte was a trend-setting personality in his discipline. With the invention of the Photonic Mixer Device (PMD) technology, Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schwarte has decisively shaped 3D image processing to this day. Several innovation awards, the holding of more than 50 patents, as well as the award of the Cross of Merit 1st Class are an expression and recognition of his professional and scientific achievements.

A visionary person who also influenced ASENTICS

For many people, Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schwarte was an important academic reference person. As a doctoral supervisor, he shaped the personal development of Dr. Horst Heinol-Heikkinen (Managing Director ASENTICS) and Dr. Thomas Krieger (Head of Development) and consequently that of all of ASENTICS.
